Jose Valdivia
Command Sergeant Major, United States Army, Retired
VRT Veteran Advocate

Jose enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1990 and initially served as a heavy equipment driver. Over his 30 years of service, he served in every leadership position from Team Leader to Command Sergeant Major. He is a combat veteran having deployed to Iraq multiple times and Afghanistan and Kosovo once. In his final Army assignment, he served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 49th Transportation Battalion at Fort Hood, TX.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Two Bronze Star Medals, Six Meritorious Service Medal along with many unit and campaign awards. Jose was also recognized as an Honorary member of the Order of Saint Christopher (Transportation) and the Order of Saint Maurice (Infantry).

A life-long learner, Jose attended many military and leadership courses throughout his career. He also holds a master’s degree in management (MSM).

Since retiring from the Army in 2020, he has been educating Veterans and service members on the VA Home Benefit, Disabilities, and the ETS Sponsorship program where he serves as a sponsor for service members that are retiring or transitioning out of the service.

He is married to his beautiful wife Rosa Valdivia of Tacoma, Washington (26 years) and they have a son, Louie, and three daughters, Christa, Desiree, and Brittany.
