VRT Veteran Advocate
Joe was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. His father was a steel mill electrician and his mother worked in real estate. When Joe graduated from high school, he got his real estate license and joined his mother’s agency. However, after a couple of years in the real estate business, Joe decided to join the Navy, so he enlisted in January 1991.
After his initial tour at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA where he learned the basics fundamentals of patient care, Joe transitioned to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) where he was responsible for care and treatment of Marines in combat and in garrison.
Joe spent the remainder of his just over 31 years in the Navy serving in various capacities and increasing leadership positions throughout the Navy, ultimately becoming the Deputy Command Master Chief and the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Directorate of Branch Clinics at Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA. In those roles he assisted the Executive Staff with the management and operation of a medical center that treated more than 250,000 beneficiaries.
Joe retired from the Navy in 2022 and settled in Escondido, California where he continues to serve veterans, service members, and their families through his work in the community.
